Leopoldine Chazeaud was born in 1982 in Libourne, near Bordeaux, close to the French Atlantic coast.
She began painting at the age of 17. Her interest in the question of human roots, as well as in East Asian art, has shaped her creative work from the very beginning and continues to do so in various forms to this day.
Driven by her interest in understanding human culture, she decided in 2000 to pursue studies in social and cultural anthropology in Bordeaux, Berlin and Lyon, which she completed with a master’s degree in 2006. The practice of drawing and painting developed alongside this path, serving as a means of creative interpretation of her inquiries.
1998 - 2010
Toward the end of her studies, she decided—driven by a quest to better understand the history of the 20th century—to move to Germany, where she deepened her exploration of the artistic resilience of women deported to the Ravensbrück concentration camp.
In her artistic practice, she chose to work with Indian ink, drawing on the influence of Asian minimalism and a restrained palette of black, white, and red. These figures of women and children speak to us of transgenerational legacies.
2013 - 2019
Painting series with Asian influence.
Ink and acrylic on canvas as well as lampshades.
In 2013, she chose to expand her artistic practice to include everyday objects, particularly lamps, for their luminous qualities.
Remaining faithful to the influence of East Asia, she continues to use Indian ink for its deep black tones and draws increasingly closer to the art of sumi-e.
2019 - 2020:
Oil painting series Paradise
The elements of water, sky, and earth merge in shades of blue. Nature is depicted in its overwhelming beauty, reflecting the soul.
2020 - Present:

Depicting the vanishing ice sheet as a reservoir of knowledge about humanity’s past.
2022 - 2023:

Depicting the transformative processes of nature.
Pencil drawings on paper
2020 - Present:
